A PROJECT BECOMES A BOOK

A project to capture and save photographs of Detroit firemen since the occupation was added to the city's constitution in 1865. It is coming out in December 2005.

Through personal photos, historic newspapers, and current fire personel publications, I have been gathering individual pictures of everyone that was a Detroit fireman. Of the nearly 9500 employees, I currently have 4500 and would like to add more missing firemen.

I have a running list of these 4000 missing firemen. Most are from the beginning of the century-1900-1945. If you have someone who was a Detroit firemen and would like to submit them:

1. attach a 200 dpi photo(head and shoulders)

2. give the full legal name with middle initial, no nick names

3. email it to me at mydetroitfiremen@yahoo.com

A Treasure!

Your grandfather or uncle may have been a Detroit firefighter. Dig through those old photos and email it on to me. Everyone should be inclubed.

My family has been in photography for 150 years. I took this project on in 2003 to leave a pictorial account of those who served the city of Detroit as firefighters. I'm hoping others can add their family members who are missing from this group.

Genealogy research has been a hobby for over 20 years. With my husband, John Anderson, retired from the DFD after 35 years, we're lucky enough to know many firefighters who have helped gather information
